Jim Gaffigan’s reaction to Dunkin Donuts realizing his idea for a glazed doughnut breakfast sandwich

Jim Gaffigan has recorded jokes about Dunkin Donuts on both his “Beyond the Pale” and “King Baby” specials.

One such joke, made in the opening minutes of “Beyond the Pale,” has become a reality. Gaffigan dreamed up a future in which a ham sandwich becomes a breakfast sandwich by replacing the bun with two doughnuts. Punchline, then tagged with “You guys laugh, but you know there’s someone at Dunkin Donuts going, ‘That’s not a bad idea.'” That was recorded in 2004, released on CD/DVD in 2006.

Cut to present-day 2013. Dunkin Donuts has introduced the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich.

A fan put two and two together and made these four images sing this week on Reddit.

Gaffigan’s reaction to it all? Gaffigan told The Comic’s Comic last night:

“I hope I get free donuts or donut ham hamburgers for life at least.”

Jim Gaffigan’s “White Bread” stand-up tour continues tonight in Las Vegas and across America this summer.

Here’s the full joke from Jim Gaffigan’s “Beyond The Pale.”

“But really, we’re a country that loves food. I mean, think about it– once a week on the news, there’s a piece on american obesity. They always show a big guy walking. They’ll block out his face– but that guy knows it’s him. “Well, ..Oh, crap!” poor guy gets to work– “Hey, Bill,…” we’re never satisfied when it comes to food. “You know what would be good on this burger? A ham sandwich. Instead of a bun, let’s use two doughnuts. That way, we can have it for breakfast. LOOK OUT, McGRIDDLE. Here comes…You guys laugh, but you know there’s someone at Dunkin’ Donuts going, “That’s not a bad idea. Then we could have the diet doughnut ham hamburger.”
