Comedy Central to roast James Franco in 2013 on Labor Day

Just when you thought you’d heard the latest weird entertainment headline involving James Franco this summer, Franco himself announced another news-making decision last night — via non-looping, lazy Instagram selfie video. He’s going to be the subject, toast and victim of this year’s Comedy Central Roast!

“Hey, y’all, what’s up? I’m going to get roasted on Comedy Central. Be sure you check it out. They wanted me to tell you that. Alright. Haha.”

More details forthcoming…

…or we’re all just being pranked.

Either way, another day in James Franco’s world, and we’re all living in it!

Cross your fingers and prepare for Seth Rogen’s giggles and a gaggle of comedians and celebrities riffing on the guy who played Riff Raff, went on soap opera General Hospital as himself as an artist, just opened an art exhibition in London, hosted the Academy Awards (sort of), went to graduate school after already making it big on the big screen, and much more.

Here are the initial details from the Comedy Central press department:

  • Comedy Central Roast of James Franco will tape in Los Angeles in August, premiere on Labor Day — Sept. 2, 2013
  • That same night, Sept. 2, Comedy Central will debut Francophrenia, the film directed by Franco about his experience playing a version of himself on General Hospital
  • #FrancoRoast

And a quote from the network: “If only James Franco was a more successful, multi-hyphenated, incessant creative risk taker in different media, he’d be the perfect person to roast. Oh well… I suppose we’ll just have to make do,” said Kent Alterman, President, Content Development & Original Programming, COMEDY CENTRAL.
