Chozen is chosen as FXX’s first new sitcom; animated series debuts 2014

And the winner of the first new sitcom to join the ranks of the new FXX programming lineup is…Chozen.

FXX, which debuts in September as a younger, hipper offshoot of FX, ordered the animated comedy to series on Thursday.

Chozen comes from Grant Dekernion, who’ll write, executive produce and star as a gay white rapping ex-con searching for redemption once he’s out of prison. The rest of the voice cast includes Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress, Michael Pena, Nick Swardson, Danny McBride, Kathryn Hahn and Method Man. McBride’s Rough House Pictures team (with Jody Hill and David Gordon Green) are executive producers, along with the animation team of Floyd County Productions (Archer’s Adam Reed and Matt Thompson).

“It’s great to be in business with Grant, Danny, Jody, David and Rough House and this is the perfect first series order for FXX,” said Nick Grad, FX Networks original programming president. “Chozen is an outrageous and ballsy comedy, but it’s also a very smart examination of the rap culture.”

FXX will launch Sept. 2, 2013, anchored by new weekly episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League and nightly episodes of Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. Chozen will debut in early 2014 alongside the second season of Jim Jefferies’ Legit.
