Hot In Cleveland to air LIVE episode to TV Land on June 19, 2013

If Betty White’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live seems too distant of a memory for you already, then just wait another couple of weeks.

Hot in Cleveland returns for the second half of its fourth season on TV Land with a special LIVE episode on Wednesday, June 19.

Live episodes of sitcoms are rare enough — 30 Rock did it twice on NBC, and a decade previously, The Drew Carey Show went live multiple times for ABC, while also adding an improv element to those episodes. For basic cable? Even more rarefied airwaves.

TV Land announced today that William Shatner and Brian Baumgartner would join the cast as guest stars for the live episode on the East Coast, which will air at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central. Sorry, West Coast. You’ll get sorta kinda live, as in a taped version of the East Coast live episode later.

The episode will pick up the storyline with Joy (Jane Leeves) discovering Elka (Betty White) and Mamie (Georgia Engel) caught up and overwhelmed with illegal and dangerous activities. I suppose that you suppose that Shatner and Baumgartner will be among those shady types involved in the shenanigans. Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) and Victoria (Wendie Malick) will try to help Joy help the older ladies out of their collective jam. That’s the story. But since it’s broadcasting live, anything could happen.

Here is a quick teaser. Roll it!
