Who is Angela Hoover?
No, you’re not on Jeopardy or in jeopardy, for that matter. Just noting that millions of Americans newly discovered Angela Hoover last night via TV, and that they may already have seen her before — despite the onscreen graphic on America’s Got Talent that said she’s a 42-year-old “stay-at-home mom.”
Hoover is a comedian and actress, and as she introduces herself to the NBC audience and the AGT judges (Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B. and Howie Mandel), she put her comedy career on hold for five years after moving to Las Vegas for her husband’s job and also to birth and raise two children. For her audition, Hoover impersonated celebrities at a children’s birthday party — Celine Dion, Drew Barrymore, Kristin Chenoweth and even Klum.
Roll the clip!
But wait. There’s more!
Last night, Hoover also appeared on Comedy Central’s new sketch series, Inside Amy Schumer. “I got to play an over the top beauty expert that gives Amy a makeover that goes awry,” Hoover said.
Hoover’s comedy career has been more active over the past couple of years, since she staged her one-woman show, “Have You Seen My Funnel Cakes?” in 2011. As Hoover noted on her blog, Faking Motherhood, she won a “California’s Funniest Females” contest, and last year, earned another TV credit by performing on NickMom Night Out. That episode curiously is no longer available to view on either the NickMom site or Amazon Instant Video.
You still can see a webseries Hoover did for Lifetime in 2009, however, called “Mommy Madness.” In this episode, Hoover contemplated working from home.
Stay tuned this summer.
