Watch “Mel Brooks: Make a Noise,” the PBS American Masters documentary

In case you missed it, here it is online.

From the PBS American Masters description: “Mel Brooks: Make a Noise journeys through Brooks’ early years in the creative beginnings of live television — with Sid Caesar on Your Show of Shows — to the film genres he so successfully satirized in Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, and Spaceballs — to the groundbreaking Broadway musical version of his first film, The Producers. The documentary also delves into his professional and personal ups and downs — his childhood, his first wife and subsequent 41-year marriage to Anne Bancroft — capturing a never-before-heard sense of reflection and confession.” From his early taunts of the Nazis as a soldier in WWII and Melvin Kaminsky to Mel Brooks and a lifetime in comedy.

Brooks takes part in this with updated interviews (plus archived footage from other interviews in the 1970s), and you hear from Nathan Lane, Joan Rivers, Rob Reiner, Tracy Ullman, David Steinberg, Barry Levinson and, of course, Carl Reiner. Seeing their friendship over several decades is a blessing and a treat.

Roll it when you’ve got the time!
