HBO going to Northern California for two new comedy series

HBO’s current original comedy stable revolves around Girls and Veep.

They’ll be rejoined by a double dose of guys by 2014.

The pay-cable network has announced pickups of two new comedy series, both set in and around the Bay Area of Northern California.

Today came word of an HBO series order for an untitled series written and directed by Mike Judge, which follows the young men in the high-tech Web 2.0 world of Silicon Valley. It stars Thomas Middleditch and T.J. Miller, with a cast that included Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Angela Trimbur, Josh Brener, Lindsey Broad, Christopher Evan Welch and Amanda Crew. John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky also are aboard as writers, with production from Scott Rudin and 3 Arts.

The other new series, also untitled, comes from Michael Lannan and Andrew Haigh. It stars Jonathan Groff and takes place in San Francisco, following the exploits of three gay men. It received an eight-episode order.
