Comedy Central to go dark to promote launch of Comedy Central Radio on SiriusXM

Comedy Central is about to launch Comedy Central Radio on SiriusXM this weekend, and it’ll make sure that its longtime TV watchers know about it when it happens.

Comedy Central’s cable TV channel will go “dark” at midnight Sunday to simulcast the audio feed of Comedy Central Radio for its opening minute on SiriusXM, eliminating the moving pictures to alert TV viewers that they have a new way to experience the network’s stand-up and comedy special offerings.

UPDATE: Amy Schumer’s voice will welcome listeners to Comedy Central Radio with a personalized intro, followed by her latest one-hour special, “Mostly Sex Stuff,” then Daniel Tosh’s “Happy Thoughts,” then a “Comedy Central Presents” with Anthony Jeselnik.

Future programming likewise will cull through hundreds of hours of content from the network’s library of stand-up series, specials and Comedy Central Roasts, plus new original series and interviews exclusive to the radio channel. Also also: Simulcasts from “Comedy Central certified” comedy clubs, guest DJs and events tied to upcoming TV programming.

If you want to know what’s in store for Comedy Central Radio on SiriusXM Ch. 95, check out the channel’s radio page for updated listings.

And if you’re wondering how often Comedy Central’s TV channel has gone dark, it’s only happened once before — on May 22, 1992 — when Comedy Central ceded its programming to allow viewers to take in Johnny Carson’s final episode of The Tonight Show.
