First look: Bo Burnham’s “Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous” on MTV

Anyone who has followed Bo Burnham’s burgeoning comedy career from his bedroom out to the comedy clubs and theaters literally has seen him and his comedy grow up. As Burnham has matured, he has shown a fondness for commenting on celebrity and art and comedy — and his new MTV half-hour series, Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, taps into all of that.

In it, Burnham stars as Zach Stone, a recent high-school graduate who uses his life savings to hire a camera crew to film him day-and-night as if he already were famous. Fake it ’til you make it, indeed.

Kari Coleman and Tom Wilson play his parents; Cameron Palatas, his brother. Other cast includes Caitlin Gerard, Armen Weitzman and Shelley Hennig. The series premieres Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 10:30 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.
