Kathleen Madigan, Earthquake and Retha Jones on an all-comedy episode of The View

Performing stand-up comedy on live morning television sounds thrilling enough until you stop on the word “morning” and realize, ohhhhh, stand-up comedy on TV in the morning doesn’t sound much fun. Who’s ready to laugh first thing in the morning? Is it any better if morning is as late as 11 a.m.? How about if it’s pre-recorded? Go ahead and crucify the comedians, why don’t you?

That was the situation on Friday morning when ABC’s The View dedicated its Good Friday telecast to comedy.

Bone Hampton sat in as guest c0-host for “Hot Topics” with Whoopi, Joy, Sherri and Elisabeth, then each of the ladies introduced a stand-up comedian of her choice.

Whoopi Goldberg’s pick: Earthquake.

Joy Behar’s pick: Kathleen Madigan.

Sherri Shepherd’s pick: Retha Jones.

And Elisabeth Hasselbeck, having no career in comedy, picked a 10-year-old from YouTube: Leroya Sanford.

The entire episode is available to watch on Hulu.
