SNL #38.16 RECAP: Host and musical guest Justin Timberlake, #5timersclub all-star edition

Justin Timberlake made his fifth turn as host of Saturday Night Live in high style, as so many previous old cast members and hosts welcomed him into the show’s fake-yet-real “Five-Timers Club.” Paul Simon, Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Martin Short (yes, The Three Amigos!), plus Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Candice Bergen and more.

One of the more amusing things is seeing how the writers force the names of the older celebrities into the dialogue, because some of the kids out there watching might not know them or even understand why they’re there onstage. Related: Even The Hollywood Reporter‘s overnight SNL recapper lower-cased and undersold the reappearance of the “Wild and Crazy Guys” (The Festrunk Brothers) later in this show. Spoiler alert? Not really! Thanks to the way we live now, the comedic icons themselves telegraphed their appearances on SNL this time around.

More on that when we’re ready for the full recap. For now, please enjoy these videos approved for Internet viewing…

Which is a good time to point out that the cold open, with JT as Elton John playing out the late Hugo Chavez to an updated updated “Candle in the Wind” isn’t online officially yet.
