D.L. Hughley, Andy Dick join season 16 cast of “Dancing With the Stars”

One of these seasons, a comedian will emerge as a viable candidate to win Dancing with the Stars, right? Right? After all, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence just made dancing funny and successful in the movies with Silver Linings Playbook.

So how will D.L. Hughley and Andy Dick fare this spring on ABC?

“i’ll see if I can learn to dance with my foot in my mouth,” Hughley joked this morning on Good Morning America, after the network revealed the full cast for season 16 of DWTS, which premieres March 18. “I’m excited. I never knew my hips was supposed to move like that.”

Andy Dick, meanwhile, introduced himself to the DWTS stage with a pratfall.

Hughley followed up with a backstage photo of the dueling dancing comedians (which @andydick RT’d), and announced to his fans via Twitter @RealDLHughley, “From now on my DWTS name is BOOGIE FANTASTIC!!”

Season 16 of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars also includes country singers Wynonna Judd and Kellie Pickler, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, figure skating legend Dorothy Hamill, professional boxer Victor Ortiz, NFL star Jacoby Jones, The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills’s Lisa Vanderpump, General Hospital‘s Ingo Rademacher and Disney Channel’s Zendaya Coleman.

Hughley will be paired with two-time DWTS champion Cheryl Burke, while Dick gets to tango with DWTS rookie Sharna Burgess (she previously danced with the show’s house troupe).

DWTS began adding comic relief in its second season with ESPN’s Kenny Mayne, first as a contestant, and then as a commentator. But comedians haven’t fared all too well on the show. Past performances, and their final rankings: Penn Jillette (season six, last place); Adam Carolla (season six, ninth place); Jeffrey Ross (season seven, last place); David Alan Grier (season eight, ninth place); Steve-O (season eight, eighth place); Niecy Nash (season 10, fifth place); Margaret Cho (season 11, 10th place); Sherri Shepherd (season 14, 10th place).

Good luck to D.L. Hughley and Andy Dick this spring. The comedy community will be rooting for you!
