Would Jerry Seinfeld invite David Letterman to “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee”?

Jerry Seinfeld returned to Late Show with David Letterman tonight, but on this trip, Letterman turned the tables on Seinfeld, asking when he might be invited as a guest on Jerry’s webseries for Crackle, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”

Well. Would he? Could he? Should he?

Seinfeld joked about Letterman putting him on the spot on national TV. Then he said he looked at Dave’s Late Show: “What about that show do I like? You like it when somebody comes on that you like. So I decided why don’t I do a show where I only do it when it’s somebody I like. So. That’s why I don’t so that many of them. So. I could never do your job.”

Letterman wondered if that’s why he hasn’t made the cut yet. Yet.

Roll the clip!

Before doing panel, Seinfeld also performed another six-minute stand-up set. Talk about classic! And I don’t just mean the bits Seinfeld chose this time — he’s really maintained an old-school traditional sensibility about being a stand-up comedian first, then panelist second, by being one of the rare guys (Bill Cosby is another who comes to mind) who still will come out onstage on Letterman’s show to perform routines before sitting at the panel.

In this set, Seinfeld jokes about the idea of staying hydrated in contemporary culture, then pulls out a bit from his touring archives about how we behave in movie theaters.

Roll it.
