They recorded their sets separately in front of the appropriate live studio audience, to be sure, but those sets aired later. Sometimes much later than that night.

Ophira Eisenberg performed on Friday’s episode of Late Show, and she became the first stand-up to do her set, then get summoned over by Ferguson to the desk and sit down for a panel segment.
Is it the same as getting the wink, wave and summoning from Johnny Carson? Is anything really ever the same as what came before?
Let’s focus on Eisenberg, who jokes about being introduced in another gig as Oprah Something Jewish, is nostalgic for a time before Facebook, stalking your exes, bikini waxes and marriage.
