Comedy Headlines for 1/22/13

What’s happening in the comedy world now…

  • Gravitas Ventures acquired the Eddie Pepitone documentary, The Bitter Buddha, out of Slamdance yesterday. The film directed by Steven Feinartz will screen in cinemas on Feb. 15, and if not near you then, then on your TVs via VOD on Feb. 19.
  • CBS has ordered three comedies to pilot. Two come from Greg Garcia (Raising Hope, My Name Is Earl) — Super Clyde, about a fast-food employee turned super hero; and an untitled project about a divorced guy whose parents move in with him. The third comedy pilot at CBS is from Will Gluck and writer Brian Gallivan and it’s called The McCarthys. No relation! It’s a single-cam about a Boston family. Again, no relation!
  • Heather Locklear will join TNT’s Franklin and Bash for that show’s third season.
  • Nickelodeon has ordered The Haunted Hathaways to series. From Robert Peacock, it’s likeĀ Brady Bunch with the male half of the family being ghosts (the other half, in curls). Sort of. You’ll see.
  • Matt Roberts has been named the new head writer at Late Show with David Letterman. Longtime Late Show head writers Justin and Eric Stangel haveLn’t left; rather, they signed a new deal with Worldwide Pants to develop additional shows for the production company.
  • NBC has ordered three comedy projects to pilot: An untitled single-cam from Robert Padnick and Greg Daniels about young friends in the dating world; a Gary Sanchez Productions single-cam vehicle called Assistance written by Leslye Headland about an assistant juggling her “work husband” and her real fiancee; and Donor Party, a single-cam from Alex Schemmer about a guy who was a sperm donor and now those kids have found him.
