Comedy Headlines for 1/16/13

What’s happening in the comedy world now…

  • Over the holidays, ABC announced it would air original episodes of Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 on Sunday nights as well as Tuesdays. That didn’t last long. No more Sundays for both sitcoms. Instead, the 10 p.m. Sunday hour will be filled with Shark Tank repeats.
  • Steve Harvey has signed an exclusive deal with Clear Channel, renewing his relationship with them for his syndicated morning radio show. His daytime TV talker also has been renewed for a second season.
  • NBC is developing a multi-cam sitcom based on Jessica Simpson’s real life, starring Simpson. Blame/credit Nick Bakay, who’s writing the script, and Ben Silverman’s Electus, for this.
  • Turner made a deal with Netflix to provide streaming programming for some of its back catalog of Adult Swim series, beginning on March 30, 2013.
  • Lifetime has dropped dramedy Drop Dead Diva. It aired for four seasons, and its cast included Margaret Cho. Yes. Four seasons. Everyone was talking about it. Weren’t they? Just ask a comedy nerd. That’d be fun. Do it. Do it.
  • NBC has promoted Doug Vaughan to Executive Vice President, Special Programs and Late Night Programming. Vaughan is based in New York.
