Funny or Die to launch movie division

Funny or Die continues to expand and evolve past its original mission — when was the last time you remember voting on a user-submitted video to “die” or stay online because it was “funny”? — as the company announced plans to launch a movie division.

Wait.

Don’t Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Will Ferrell already have a production company in Gary Sanchez Productions?

Yes, but this is different.

The Funny or Die movie studio division is a partnership with that trio, plus CAA and Scott Steindorff’s Scott Pictures, with plans to put out a handful of low-budget feature films each year written, directed and starring Funny or Die’s stable of talent. “We’re not looking to find some scripts and make just a bunch of movies,” says Dick Glover, Funny or Die’s CEO. “We’re looking to enhance the brand though this venture.”

Funny or Die produced Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie in 2012.

The company previously announced a book division in 2011, and in TV, has FUSE’s Billy on the Street, the upcoming Drunk History on Comedy Central, and two seasons of Funny or Die Presents sketches on HBO.

In related news, Funny or Die also has racked up 5 million followers on Twitter. So the company summoned its famous funny face, Will Ferrell, in front of a camera to mark the occasion. Roll it!
