Judd Apatow sits down for “Serious Jibber-Jabber” with Conan O’Brien

For Conan O’Brien’s second installment of his Web-only uninterrupted talk show, “Serious Jibber-Jabber,” the front man for Team Coco on TBS welcomes writer/director/producer Judd Apatow to the table. Over the course of 69 minutes and change, we learn from Apatow that: Upon learning that one of Apatow’s first spec scripts was an episode of The Simpsons he wrote more than two decades ago, he said the show’s staff called him up recently to say they’ll film his episode next season. There isn’t so much improvisation in an Apatow movie as much as there is rewriting of jokes on the...

What’s old is new again: Lost classic Johnny Carson reel is found; movie in works; TCM to air clips

On Oct. 1, 2012 — the 50th anniversary of Johnny Carson‘s debut on The Tonight Show on NBC — a military base in California turned up footage long thought lost of the legendary late late-night TV host. The find is just one of the more remarkable events happening this fall for the Carson estate. A PBS documentary about Carson (Johnny Carson: King of Late Night) premiered in May, word came earlier this month of a possible biopic, and now today, TCM (Turner Classic Movies) announced it had licensed 50 interviews from the n0w-bolstered Carson Entertainment Group archives. The TCM clips...

Review: Stephen Lynch, “Lion”

Stephen Lynch is a gifted musician. On top of having a great singing voice and being an excellent guitarist, Lynch has also consistently shown that he can adapt to a variety of music genres and styles. In the past, Lynch has used such musical talent to create songs about molestation, genocide, and rectally smuggling drugs, because if you’re a gifted musician and not doing that, let’s be honest, you’re performing a disservice to your fellow man (I’m looking at you, every musician who has ever taken anything seriously). His new album, Lion, doesn’t tackle the overtly shocking topics his...
