Comedy Headlines for 11/9/12

What’s happening in the comedy world now…

  • More NYC and Tri-State area comedy shows lining up to raise money to help victims of post-tropical storm Sandy in Staten Island, Long Island and New Jersey. Louis CK will perform Nov. 17 on Staten Island. Eugene Mirman will host a comedy benefit Nov. 25 at The Bell House in Brooklyn with Jon Glaser, Mike Birbiglia, Wyatt Cenac, Michael Che and more. On Nov. 13, The Bell House also will host another Hurricane Sandy benefit, a pop culture trivia night with NY1’s Pat Kiernan.
  • Comedy Central has renewed Brickleberry, Daniel Tosh’s animated comedy set in a national park, for a second season — 13 episodes — to return in fall 2013. The first season currently averages 1.8 million viewers per week.
  • FOX named John Quaintance and David Feeney showrunners on rookie single-camĀ Ben And Kate.
  • NBC has ordered five additional scripts for the second season of Whitney Cummings’ multi-camĀ Whitney, which returns this month on Wednesday nights with an original renewal of 13 episodes.
  • Maria Bamford will self-release a stand-up special of her own from the privacy of her own home for the second time later this month. Look for Maria Bamford: The special special special! on Nov. 28.
  • Showtime has decided to rebrand a fourth, final season of tragicomedy The Big C as four hourlong episodes.
