- Showtime has ordered a second stand-up comedy special from Larry Wilmore (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart correspondent) that’ll be politically-based and air Nov. 3 — just before Election Day. It tapes Oct. 24 in Jacksonville, Fla. Wilmore is with UTA.
- CBS gave a script order to an untitled multi-cam family comedy inspired by the life of Adrienne Brodeur, author of Man Camp and founder of literary magazine Zoetrope: All-Story with Francis Ford Coppola.
- Waterman Entertainment is looking to turn longtime newspaper comic strip cat Heathcliff into a CGI/live action film and a 13-episode animated TV series. Somewhere Garfield is eating lasagna and having a case of the Thursdays, while Bill Murray is unavailable for voiceovers or comment. Waterman also secured worldwide licensing and merchandising for Heathcliff. Said Peter Gallagher, the nephew of Heathcliff creator George Gately: “We want our existing fans to identify with the characters they know while introducing him to an entirely new audience. As a creator I know that they will be attentive to our lasting vision for the brand and welcome our input, which is very important to me.” (via Deadline)
- ABC put two more single-cam sitcoms into development. True Story is based on Jennifer Crittenden and Gaby Allan’s experiences growing up with single moms in the 1970s. Man And Boy, from Danny Wallace, is about a man returning home to his small town and taking care of his nephew.
- Comedic game show Hip Hop Squares returns with new episodes Oct. 23 on MTV2.
- Kevin Connolly is attached to a multi-cam sitcom at CBS called I Love You Like A Brother. Written by Tad Safran and based on his family. Connolly would play the youngest of three brothers. Rob Long also is executive producing. Safran and Long have a separate comedy in development with Showtime — The Death Pact — about a group of friends whose lives change when someone from their past re-enters the picture.
