NBC hangs up on Dane Cook’s “Next Caller” before its midseason debut

The first network sitcom of the 2012-2013 to bite the dust never even made it to air.

NBC announced late Friday that it had cancelled Dane Cook’s planned midseason sitcom, Next Caller, citing dissatisfaction with the show’s direction. Next Caller had wrapped production on four of its six ordered episodes after the pilot, taping in New York City.

Cook confirmed the news on his Twitter feed with a bit of self-deprecation, writing: “After 4 episodes Next Caller has been politely asked to leave the building. I can only hope we get syndicated because that money is bomb!” Followed soon thereafter with: “Loved my cast & crew (not sure of their names.. didn’t have time to learn them) but will never forget my 37 hours working on Next Brawler.”

If you’d like to see what you’ll be missing, here is a clip from the pilot filmed earlier in 2012. The show was to star Cook as a crude satellite radio host who has to take on a new co-host (Collette Wolfe) who is a feminist from NPR. Jeffrey Tambor and Joy Osmanski were to have co-starred.

Roll the clip!
