Comedy Headlines for 10/15/12

What’s happening in the comedy world now…

  • Keep your action figures in mint condition! Adult Swim has renewed Robot Chicken for a seventh season.
  • Penn Jillette made the cut for the first “All-Star” edition of Celebrity Apprentice, which begins production this week in New York City, with a premiere date for NBC coming in March 2013. Donald Trump already has proclaimed this “All-Star” edition to be the biggest collection of stars on the planet ever.
  • Bill Lawrence, who is seeing his Cougar Town sitcom jump from ABC to TBS this winter, has sold a new comedy to NBC called Undateable. It’s based on the book, “Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do that Guarantee They Won’t be Dating or Having Sex.”
  • CBS has bought the multi-cam TV rights to a blog, Granny Is My Wingman, thanks to its executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Kayli Stollak launched the blog in 2011, and included her grandmother in the blogging as she tried to find a mate through online dates. Even in just their first year, Kayli and her grandmother received a lot of media attention. They appeared on Good Morning America last year.
  • ABC is giving Tyra Banks a chance to recount her teen years with a single-cam deal for Fivehead. She’s working on the potential sitcom with Kenya Barris, with whom she has been friends since childhood.
