Adam Scott and Jon Hamm in “The Greatest Event in Television History”

In case you missed it late last night, Adult Swim aired The Greatest Event in Television History. At least that’s what Adam Scott and his wife, Naomi, titled it.

The 11-and-a-half-minute special showed Scott and Jon Hamm re-creating — shot for shot — the opening credits to the 1980s detective comedy series, Simon & Simon. But it’s presented with a massive buildup for the first 10 minutes, befitting a historic television moment such as “this.” Complete with countdown clock. Jeff Probst also appears in it (as the countdown host), as does Paul Rudd, Gus Van Sant, Kathryn Hahn, Paul Scheer and Megan Mullally.

Roll the clip already!

Such a bold, silly thing. But also a bold, silly move by Adult Swim to make this happen and put it on the air. Perhaps we’ll see more one-off comedy specials in the future?

If you watched through the end credits, you’d see the original Simon & Simon opening title sequence playing alongside them. Want to score it for accuracy? Watch it again!
