“Comedian’s National Anthem,” by Myq Kaplan and Micah Sherman [Music Video]

Do you know all of the words to your National Anthem? ALL of the words? Could you sing it on cue, let alone on pitch?

OK.

Now, can you sing the “Comedian’s National Anthem”? Wait. You don’t know that age-old ditty? That’s probably because it’s only a few years old, and the song was composed and performed by comedians Myq Kaplan and Micah Sherman. I first heard them do this live at an “alt” comedy festival several years ago in Somerville, Mass. Both Kaplan and Sherman base their comedy (in all of its forms) in New York City. Their music, however, can be shared with the world soon enough, as their first CD as a musical duo, “Please Be Seated,” will be available for purchase on Sept. 25, 2012.

You don’t have to be seated, however, to enjoy this animated music video for “Comedian’s National Anthem.” Note: Sherman (left) and Kaplan were not drawn to scale. Micah is much taller than Myq. Phew. Glad I got that off of my chest. As Kaplan writes in the YouTube notes for this song, “The Comedian’s National Anthem lampoons the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld, Carrot Top, Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy, Woody Allen, Chris Rock, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield, and many other comedians.”

Roll the clip! Memorize the words! Write your own additional verses! A fourth thing!
