3D Monty Python doc on Graham Chapman, Jim Norton special on tap for EPIX in 2012

EPIX revealed its upcoming original programming plans for the rest of 2012, which includes a reunion of the living members of Monty Python for a documentary on the late Graham Chapman, as well as a new stand-up special from Jim Norton.

“These original programs are a great complement to the impressive motion pictures coming to EPIX – the stories are moving, the laughs are real, and the end result is entertaining programs that allow us to give viewers even more reasons to come to Epix on TV, online and on devices,” EPIX CEO and president Mark Greenberg said in a release.

A Liar’s Autobiography will be a 90-minute 3-D animated documentary of the life of the late Graham Chapman, the charismatic member of the legendary Monty Python who starred front-and-center as King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Brian in Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Chapman grappled with his sexuality and his alcoholism, before dying in 1989 at the age of 48.

The documentary is based on Graham’s 1986 memoir and uses several different types of animation, plus some of Graham’s own recordings from that time, allowing him to narrate parts of the film. His Python mates also lend their voices: Cleese plays himself; Terry Gilliam, Graham’s doctor; Michael Palin, his father; and Terry Jones, his mother.

The film will debut on EPIX in November 2012.

And as announced above, stand-up comedian Jim Norton will debut his latest hour-plus effort, Jim Norton: Please Be Offended, on EPIX in June 2012.
