Gallery1988 exhibits “Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year” in L.A.

Gallery1988 in Hollywood and Funny or Die received so much successful attention and plaudits for last year’s comedy art exhibition, “Is This Thing On?,” that they’re debuting the sequel tonight.

“Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year” runs from March 9-31, 2012, and there’s nothing weird about the fact that Weird Al Yankovic is hosting the launch party tonight at the gallery on Melrose.

The gallery specifically worked with Yankovic to produce an official screenprint set to encapsulate his music career, with a limited-edition run of 200 for each print, priced at $35 each. You can see the set on the Gallery1988’s Tumblr, where they wrote: “Working with Al has LITERALLY been a dream come true for us. And each artist really nailed this project and we couldn’t be happier with the results. If you look at these and don’t smile, you can’t be our friend. One of our dream projects, has come to life…”

In all, about 100 artists have created everything from paintings to sculptures of Louis C.K.’s “Ice Cream” short film to plush dolls and more.

You can see a few more selections already on Funny or Die.

The full gallery should be available for viewing and purchasing once the exhibit officially opens.

Related: Zach Galifianakis wrote a thank-you note to the artist who had depicted him in the first exhibition in early 2011.
