Bridesmaids, Midnight in Paris score multiple Oscar nominations

Happy news for comedy fans this morning as the Academy Awards, 84th annual edition, bestowed nominations to some of your favorite comedians and funny films of 2011.

And that’s not counting some of the more lighthearted fare receiving serious recognition, too (looking at you, The Artist, Jonah Hill in Moneyball, and per usual, the animated feature film selections).

OK.

So, first and foremost, in the supporting actress category, Melissa McCarthy earned a nomination for her scene-stealing work in Bridesmaids! Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig’s screenplay made the cut, too.

Midnight in Paris is one of the nine finalists for Best Picture, and also up for directing and original screenplay (Woody Allen), plus art direction.

And Bret McKenzie, one half of New Zealand’s Flight of the Conchords, is up for best original song for “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets.

Congrats to all of the nominees! We’ll find out who wins Oscar this year on Feb. 26.
