Kelly MacFarland, “Bombshell”

This gal’s got sass. Always has. Even when appearing on the first season of The Biggest Loser back in 2004 (she lost 72 pounds then).

After questioning a silent audience member at Mottley’s Comedy Club in Boston who Kelly MacFarland presumed was questioning her running regimen: “I lost weight a few years ago, and then I was hungry and I was like ‘Fuck this, I need a cake!” Awarded Best of the Fest at the 2010 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, MacFarland’s debut CD, “Bombshell,” is the result of that win. And she still feels victorious here. Instead of worrying about her weight or how she looks when she runs in “One Sports Bra,” MacFarland mocks “The Tinys” and their women whose behavior is annoying, dumb and unnatural. Her lengthiest bit covers two tracks near the end of her set in which he discusses how sneezing is different for dumb girls than for normal people, or even for herself. There’s nothing particularly topical discussed on “Bombshell,” so the material never will become outdated. She’s very charismatic and audiences easily love and root for her. The disc offers 19 tracks, plus two bonus tracks in which MacFarland pauses to find out more about specific audience members. However, the disc clocks in at a surprisingly short 36 minutes. I just wish she had offered more of herself on her debut. Maybe she’s saving up material for next time?
