Showtime changes name of David Steinberg/Steve Carell documentary series to “Inside Comedy,” announces air dates

David Steinberg’s latest comedian interview show — with Steve Carell on-board with him as a fellow executive producer — has a new name, Inside Comedy, and a debut date on Showtime (Jan. 26, 2012).

With ten, half-hour episodes, the series will have Steinberg interviewing comedians one-on-one.

But with so many more than ten comedians listed in the various press releases — as well as Steinberg’s own photo collection from behind the scenes — I wonder how deep the conversations are going to get.

The list of comedians interviewed include Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld, Mel Brooks, Don Rickles, Jonathan Winters, Tim Conway, Carl Reiner, Billy Crystal, Garry Shandling, Martin Short, Robin Williams, Steven Wright, Larry David, Brad Garrett, Kathy Griffin, Jane Lynch, Sarah Silverman and Carell. Plus there are a few others pictured on set with Steinberg, including the late Robert Schimmel, Richard Lewis, Larry Miller, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Lovitz, Drew Carey, Dick Van Dyke, David Koechner, Bonnie Hunt, Bob Saget, Bill Maher, Ben Stiller, Tommy Smothers, Kevin Pollak, Paula Poundstone and Stephen Fry.

Seriously. How many people are actually in this thing? And it’ll all fit into ten half-hours?

This show previously was introduced under the title Laughing Stock.

Showtime already has another comedians talking to comedians about comedy series, The Green Room with Paul Provenza, which completed its second season earlier this year. Will there be a third season? Even Provenza doesn’t know and hadn’t heard anything as of yesterday, when he was asking Showtime via Twitter for a renewal.
