Oscars shakeup: Billy Crystal in, Eddie Murphy out as 2012 Academy Awards host

In an odd twist of fate and Brett Ratner being Brett Ratner, we went from Tower Heist propelling Eddie Murphy’s comedy comeback to hosting the Academy Awards, to, well, none of those things materializing. And it’s still only November. Don’t believe the hype.

First Ratner quit as Oscars co-producer. Then Murphy quit as Oscars host.

And before you could say, remember how Billy Crystal was interested in returning for a ninth time to host in 2012, we learned that Billy Crystal will host the Academy Awards in February 2012.

As the comedian himself Tweeted and received an RT from @TheAcademy: “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show”
