FX bullish on comedy, renews Louie, Wilfred, doubles up on It’s Almost Sunny in Philadelphia

This morning at the TCA Summer Tour, FX announced to TV critics that the cable network not only already ordered renewals for Louis CK’s Louie (for season three) and Wilfred (for season two), but also had made a deal with the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for seasons eight and nine, with a development deal tacked on to work with the guys in the future.

FX also announced its intentions to add two more comedies to its programming slate in the future. FX currently airs five dramas and five comedies — the other two comedies are The League and Archer.

Season seven of Sunny, meanwhile, debuts Sept. 15, and features lead character Mac gaining 50 pounds, which he did in real-life in a comedic method acting process because, as they’ve explained to other reporters, making Mac fat might be funny. Roll the trailer and you be the judge!
