BET halts production on “The Mo’Nique Show”; indefinite hiatus

In a statement this afternoon, BET announced the “indefinite hiatus” and end to its late-night talk show, The Mo’Nique Show.

The next “new” episode airs on Tuesday at 11 p.m. with two weeks remaining on the schedule. But that’s that.

“Mo’Nique Hicks and ‘The Mo’Nique Show’ are important to the BET Networks family and we look forward to continuing our relationship with her,” said the BET statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times.

Mo’Nique had an Academy Award when her show debuted on cable two years ago. As the raw data showed, however, by May 2011, Mo’Nique’s show — taped in advance from Atlanta — badly trailed the rest of the late-night chatters.

Rodney Perry, Mo’Nique’s sidekick on the show, told the AJC: “We did some good work. And I think the show is significant. There hasn’t been an outlet for people of color late night since Arsenio.”

MediaTakeOut, meanwhile, cited unnamed sources a few days ago who claimed the host and the network weren’t getting along.
