MTV brings back daytime live talk show; three stand-up comics were among finalists for hosting gig

TRL isn't coming back to MTV, but something kinda sorta like it is, and you came this close to seeing two stand-up comedians host it!

The Hollywood Reporter reported overnight that MTV would debut "The Seven" as a live weekday afternoon show broadcast from Times Square in the 5 p.m. hour, with Chicago DJ Kevin Manno and New York City TV personality Julie Alexandria as the hosts. Manno already left his DJ spot at Chicago's Q101 in August, while Alexandria said she'll continue hosting Mets Weekly on SNY for the remainder of the regular season, which is only a few weeks.

What THR didn't tell you was that MTV had three comedians in the running for the hosting gigs among the final six candidates before picking Manno and Alexandria. I'm going to try closing my eyes on Sept. 27 and pretend I'm seeing Barry Rothbart, Hasan Minhaj, Lauren Ashley Bishop on my MTV. Iliza Shlesinger also was in the early running for this show.
