Preview/Review: Jimmy Dore’s “Citizen Jimmy”

Comedy Central will air Jimmy Dore‘s new one-hour special, "Citizen Jimmy," tonight at 11 following Live at Gotham. The full unedited version of "Citizen Jimmy" comes out on DVD on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Here are a couple of clips to whet your appetite. Politics! And a heckler that gets Dore caught in a riddle!

Here Dore takes on gay-haters for their hypocrisy…

UPDATED: Having watched the full unedited version on DVD/CD, I have a review, plus more from Dore after the jump!

Some political comedians come off as being smarter than thou, but that’s not the case with Jimmy Dore. I think he sums it up best in this bit when he’s talking about the current president, George W. Bush: "I am not the sharpest knife in the knife thing…and no, I don’t think I’m smarter than President Bush, but I am smart enough to know he’s just about as dumb as I am! And I should not be running the country. I’ll tell you that. I should be smoking pot and doing comedy, which is exactly what I’m doing!" That frame of mind makes everything easier to swallow, no matter your political bent, whether he’s talking about the war on terror, gas prices, health insurance or Dick Cheney.

The DVD/CD also contains a 10-minute encore that’s more sexual than political. And if you love Todd Glass, you’ll love seeing Glass give Dore a pep talk in the intro, followed by a rant over the closing credits.

Here is a recent Punchline interview with Dore. And here is a guest post he blogged for Comedy Central.
